JOIN US, PLEASE, at the 2018 Wolfe Lake Annual General Meeting

This year’s Wolfe Lake AGM will be held on Saturday, July 21st from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Lions Beach Clubhouse on Sand Lake.  **Registration starts at 9:00 AM**

Come and mingle with your lake neighbours while getting apprised of the latest news and topics concerning Wolfe Lake.  We’re excited to have two guest speakers who will talk about the state of our lake’s walleye fishery.

There will be hot food and beverages served at the pavilion outside the clubhouse, and proceeds from these sales will benefit the community via the Lions Club.

Hope to see you there!

STARTBoating Initiative

The Canadian Safe Boating Council (CSBC) in partnership with the Lifesaving Society Ontario has launched an online boating safety program with new boaters in mind — especially people who are new to Canada, who may be participating in recreational boating for the 1st time. (A study by the Lifesaving Society showed that 31% of new immigrants to Canada planned on participating in recreational boating during the summer months.) STARTBoating is a comprehensive program that utilizes a series of online, interactive videos which teach basic boating and skills to keep you safe on the water. It’s available in several languages: English, French, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi and Tagalog.

NEW: E-mail account for bank e-transfers

Paying your WLA membership has just gotten more convenient.

Our WLA Treasurer has created an e-mail account so that we can now accept bank e-transfers from any of our members &/or newsletter-magazine advertisers (in Canadian funds only).

The account/payee e-mail is:

Interac e-transfer is the terminology, and everyone’s bank should have that site.

To pay, simply go to your bank’s site, select Interac e-transfer; then add a transfer recipient/payee (TreasurerWLCA). Now you have a payee account set up (just like any other bill paid online). Simply follow your bank’s instructions, add the amount to be transferred, select the recipient and confirm. You can even print a copy for a receipt if desired.

Wolf Howl – 2018

With a few weeks of dubious ice quality, the 2018 Wolf Howl was hanging in the balance, but Old Man Winter obliged, and the decision was finally made to proceed with this popular event!  Here are the results and some fun photo’s from the day, which was held on Saturday, February 17th.  The event drew 135 participants and coincided with Family Fishing Weekend, so no fishing licenses were required for entrants.   Special thanks to the folks at the Westport Outdoor Association, who work hard to coordinate this much-anticipated derby!

Pickerel (walleye) – 25 fish within the slot-size restriction were entered in a drawing. The winners were:  1st Prize ($100) Dakota Craig; 2nd Prize ($75) Herb Simpson; 3rd Prize ($50) John Gomma.

Northern Pike – 1st Prize ($100) 4lbs 3oz, Dustin Mulville; 2nd Prize ($50) 3lb 2oz, Brian Truelove; 3rd Prize ($25) Dave Free.
